Somchan Somsanith Obituary, Death Cause – Deputies in Spartanburg County opened fire early on Friday morning, resulting in the death of a man who was holding a child hostage. The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies arrived at 3:20 a.m. to a complaint about a disturbance with weapons on Coldstream Drive in Boiling Springs. According to the statements made by the sheriff’s office, a youngster called 911 and reported that her father was holding a rifle in addition to a shotgun and was making threats to shoot someone in the house as well as himself.

The man started moving in and out of the house with a rifle while holding the other child hostage and aiming the gun at the hostage, the deputies, and himself. The man also pointed the gun at the hostage. During the incident, “he was pointing weapons at his loved ones by the way,” stated Sheriff Chuck Wright of Spartanburg County. “Not just some random people, but his loved ones” According to the sheriff’s office, deputies eventually ended up having to shoot the man in order to protect the captive as well as themselves. According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, the man, who has been named as 42-year-old Somchan Dan Somsanith, passed away at the scene just after 4:30 a.m. as a result of the injuries he sustained. There were no injuries among the deputies.

When the deputies arrived at the scene, they were able to make contact with another individual who was currently inside the residence, who confirmed the circumstances. He informed the deputies that there were a number of additional children in the residence. The deputies made several attempts to get in touch with the man, but they were unsuccessful. The guy and all of the children, with the exception of one, were able to flee the house by climbing out of a window, according to the sheriff’s office.
