Gary Olson Obituary, Death Cause – Gary Lee “Coffee” Olson, 73 years old, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at 5:57 p.m. at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City. He was a resident of Houghton, Iowa. Gary Olson, the son of Clarence and Mary (Chesnut) Olson, was born on November 2nd, 1949 in Fort Madison, Iowa. Gary is the eldest of his parents’ two children. His father’s name is Clarence, and his mother’s name is Mary. On September 29, 1979, he wed Lucille Hellweg in Houghton, Iowa. The ceremony took place in the state of Iowa.

All of his immediate family members, including his parents, his sister Pat Bouressa, his sister-in-law Christine, and his brother-in-law Dan Bouressa, had already passed away prior to his passing. He was the only member of his immediate family that had made it through life. Gary “Coffee” Olson Construction was a company that he owned and directed all of the day-to-day operations of. In addition to having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, he also held positions as a member of the Houghton City Council and as a member of the American Legion in Farmington. Coffee was an avid fan of NASCAR and enjoyed spending time with his friends and attending the events that his grandchildren were interested in. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and being there at the activities in which they participated.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille, two children, Andy (Maria) Olson of Atkins, Iowa, and Lynn Olson of Newhall, Iowa, four grandchildren, Caleb, Ava, Bella, and Landon, one sister, Linda (Mike) Panther of Fort Madison, Iowa, and one brother, Tom Olson of Texas, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a highly devoted partner and father to his family.
